Brazilian imports of nitrogen fertilizers such as urea and ammonium sulfate are about 25% behind last year's pace, according to Rabobank. The bank does not expect the shortfall to be closed by the end of 2026, which could limit supply for Brazil's second-crop corn and sugarcane renewal.
A lagging import pace tightens Brazilian nitrogen supply during the planting and fertilization period. Combined with higher European gas prices feeding into import costs, this supports urea prices and may increase demand for fertilizer as soybean planting advances.
After 176 past bullish trade events, Urea moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -1.3% to +2.4%), and +1.6% over 20.
