December Nymex natural gas settled higher on Wednesday as forecasts shifted cooler across the eastern US through November 8 and the Midwest and West from November 9-13. Gains were capped by expectations of a larger-than-seasonal storage build in the weekly EIA report.
Colder forecasts raise expected heating demand, supporting US natural gas prices, while a bigger-than-normal storage build limits the upside. Gas-fired power is about 40% of US generation, so this feeds into power costs and feed-grain energy costs.
After 221 past bullish weather events, Natural Gas moved a median +3.3% over 5 sessions (61% higher; middle half -5.2% to +14.0%), and -0.3% over 20.
