Chung Lien Oil, which holds about 40% of Taiwan's market, has suspended production and reduced soybean meal supply used in hog feed. Taiwan's Agriculture Minister said the ministry will coordinate producers with 60% of the market to raise output, have its livestock research institute reformulate feed to use less soymeal, and import soymeal with a 5% tariff waiver if needed.
The ministry expects supply for the hog industry to be sufficient through the end of December.
Taiwan imports most of its soybean meal, so a domestic processing stoppage raises import demand for soymeal and could add slight upward pressure on SBM prices. The import tariff waiver and feed reformulation should limit the effect.
After 342 past bullish trade events, Soybean Meal moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -1.1% to +2.6%), and +0.6% over 20.
