The Indian rupee closed 9 paise stronger at 94.75 per US dollar on Tuesday, supported by heavy domestic equity buying and rising foreign capital inflows. Gains were capped by a rise in crude oil prices after reports of new US strikes on Iran-linked targets near the Strait of Hormuz.
Brent rose 0.86% to $105.67 a barrel and the dollar index edged up to 101.69.
A stronger rupee lowers the local-currency cost of imported feed ingredients and fertiliser, but elevated crude prices raise freight and energy costs for India's feed sector and keep the currency volatile.
