Platts will move the basis location for its Sunflower Oil FOB Black Sea assessment from Ukraine's deep-sea ports to the Danube ports of Izmail and Reni, effective November 16, 2026. The change follows reduced trading at Pivdennyi, Odesa and Chornomorsk amid security risks and higher freight costs.
The assessment volume will also drop from 3,000 to 1,000 metric tons.
Shifting the benchmark to Danube ports reflects that sunflower oil exports are moving there because Black Sea deep-sea logistics are disrupted, which keeps the reference price tied to actual flows. The change is a methodology update rather than a new supply shock.
After 13 past neutral logistics events, SBO moved a median -0.4% over 5 sessions (38% higher; middle half -0.9% to +0.7%), and +2.0% over 20.
Moves of each commodity's benchmark from the last close before the event. Historical reads pool past events of the same kind; they describe what happened, not what will. Not investment advice.
