The Canadian Dairy Commission announced a 2.8% increase in the farmgate milk price, equal to about $0.0259 per litre, effective February 1. The increase is below the 3.5548% the National Pricing Formula calculated, because the commission temporarily suspended the formula and chose a measured adjustment.
The smaller-than-formula increase reflects a policy decision to limit farm-gate price growth, which helps dairy processors but squeezes producers facing rising input costs. The effect on feed demand and grain prices is small.
After 147 past policy events, MILK moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (46% higher; middle half -1.0% to +0.6%), and -0.2% over 20.
