The USDA announced $8 billion in one-time Harvest Fuel Relief payments to American farmers this harvest season. The payments are meant to offset temporary market disruptions and higher input costs from diesel prices, using a uniform formula based on planted acres and modeled 2026 losses.
Commodity-specific payment rates for Title I crops will be released in November.
The payments can cushion farm margins and help keep acreage and marketing from being forced into distress selling, which limits supply response. Because the aid does not change physical supply or demand, its direct effect on grain and oilseed prices should be modest.
