A Midland Line rail upgrade between Carnamah and Mingenew in Western Australia's Mid West has been completed, raising axle-load capacity from 16 to 19 tonnes. GIWA estimates the state's 2026-27 grain crop at 23.93 million tonnes, and CBH reports receivals of 2.71 million tonnes by 1 November, nearly double last year's level.
Higher axle loads let each wagon carry about 25% more grain to Geraldton, easing logistics for a large crop and supporting export availability from Australia's wheat and barley supply. The effect on world feed grain prices is modest, as the upgrade mainly improves efficiency rather than changing total supply.
After 137 past bearish logistics events, Wheat (SRW) moved a median -0.3% over 5 sessions (44% higher; middle half -2.2% to +1.0%), and +0.0% over 20.
