The Georgia Ports Authority opened its Gainesville inland port, a $134 million facility with annual capacity of 200,000 TEU. It is linked to the Port of Savannah by Norfolk Southern rail and serves north Georgia and the Carolinas, mainly moving household goods, retail products, manufacturing parts and farm products.
The inland port adds rail capacity for agricultural exports moving through Savannah, which may modestly improve logistics for Southeastern shippers. It has no measurable effect on grain or feed prices.
