Széchenyi István University's Agricultural and Food Industry Research Centre has developed a yield forecasting model using satellite imagery and meteorological data to estimate crop yields months before harvest. The service, commercialised by Uni Inno Zrt., is already used across several thousand hectares and has been used by industry partners since 2025.
It is currently proven effective for forecasting winter wheat yields.
Better early yield estimates help farmers decide on sales and storage timing, which can affect how much wheat reaches the market and when. The impact on global prices is limited given the service's small regional footprint.
After 406 past neutral report events, Wheat (SRW) moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (47% higher; middle half -1.6% to +1.5%), and +0.0% over 20.
Moves of each commodity's benchmark from the last close before the event. Historical reads pool past events of the same kind; they describe what happened, not what will. Not investment advice.
