The US Department of Commerce ended a 64.93% antidumping duty on Russian urea, effective 20 December 2016, following its earlier rescission of a 253.98% duty on Russian ammonium nitrate in August 2016. EuroChem, a major nitrogen producer, welcomed the decision after years of lobbying.
Removing antidumping duties makes Russian urea and AN more competitive in the US market, which adds import supply and could ease US nitrogen prices over time.
After 34 past bearish policy events, Urea moved a median -0.8% over 5 sessions (38% higher; middle half -3.3% to +1.8%), and -4.5% over 20.
