Analysts at Tudor Pickering Holt and Again Capital say US natural gas could fall about 40% to $2/MMBtu or lower if President Trump's dispute with Mexico escalates and pipeline exports to Mexico are halted. Those exports were as much as 5% of US gas production last year, though the analysts do not expect a full cutoff.
A halt in pipeline exports would create a domestic gas surplus and push prices down, which would lower energy costs for US feed and ethanol plants.
After 24 past bearish trade events, Natural Gas moved a median +2.8% over 5 sessions (54% higher; middle half -4.5% to +7.3%), and -1.2% over 20.
