India's central government has approved duty-free exports of potatoes, onions, rice, wheat flour and sugar to Maldives for FY 2017-18 under a bilateral trade agreement. The DGFT notification dated June 27, 2017 exempts these shipments from existing or future export restrictions.
The exemption is a small, bilateral volume that adds marginally to Indian rice and wheat export demand, with limited effect on global prices.
