Malaysia will raise its crude palm oil export tax to 6.5% for July from 6% in June, after lowering it for a third straight month. The Malaysian Palm Oil Board set the July reference price at RM2,890.04 (US$676.35) per tonne.
A higher export tax makes Malaysian palm oil less competitive abroad and can lower domestic farm-gate prices, which tends to weigh on palm oil and its competing vegetable oils.
After 400 past bearish policy events, Palm Oil moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.1%), and +0.2% over 20.
