A workshop organised by Fediol and Fefac in Brussels on 5 October discussed responsible soy and deforestation, with examples from Brazilian and Argentine farmer organisations. Participants called for downstream buyers to convert deforestation-free commitments into market demand and for EU and national governments to consider environmental subsidies.
The focus was on the Cerrado biome.
If downstream buyers commit to responsible soy demand, a premium for certified soy could develop, though current effects on overall soybean and meal prices are minimal.
