On UN Forests Day, EIA highlighted two newly released European Commission studies on deforestation caused by EU consumption of forest-risk commodities such as palm oil, timber, soy, coffee, beef and leather. The feasibility study presents 20 possible policy interventions requiring both supply- and demand-side measures.
Potential EU rules on forest-risk commodities could eventually tighten import requirements for palm oil, soy and other feed-relevant inputs, raising compliance costs for buyers. The effect on prices is still speculative since no binding measures have been adopted.
After 548 past bullish policy events, Palm Oil moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (61% higher; middle half -0.7% to +2.1%), and +0.9% over 20.
After 206 past neutral policy events, Soybean Meal moved a median -0.4% over 5 sessions (44% higher; middle half -2.3% to +1.8%), and -0.7% over 20.
