Texas A&M AgriLife first-year trials compared dryland grain sorghum and dryland corn planted on two dates at Bushland, Texas. Results showed that hybrid choice and planting date affect water use and final yield.
The researchers are assessing whether dryland crop diversification is viable on the High Plains.
The trial results are early and local, so they are unlikely to shift national sorghum or corn supplies. They do show that water management can change dryland yields in drought-prone areas.
Not enough comparable past events yet for a historical read.
After 445 past neutral weather events, Corn moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (52% higher; middle half -1.4% to +1.6%), and +0.7% over 20.
