Canada and 10 other countries concluded negotiations on the CPTPP trade agreement, according to Canada's International Trade Minister. The Canola Council says tariffs of about 15% in Japan have blocked canola oil exports, and removing them could add up to C$780 million a year in oil and meal exports.
Concluding the CPTPP gives Canadian canola oil and meal a route to tariff-free access in Japan and Vietnam, supporting value-added demand. Implementation timing still determines when prices feel the effect.
