The Colombian peso strengthened to its highest level in about 20 months, trading near 2,800 pesos per dollar, as Brent crude climbed to around US$65 a barrel, its highest since January 2014. Analysts attribute the move to tightening US crude stockpiles and OPEC supply restraint.
Some expect further gains for the peso between March and April.
Higher oil prices lift Colombia's oil and gas export revenue, which had collapsed after 2015, and support the peso. For feed buyers, the effect on grain and meal prices is indirect.
