US natural gas utilities pulled the second-largest amount from storage on record over the winter, leaving stockpiles about 20% below normal at the end of the heating season on March 31. Companies will need to inject 16% more gas than usual this summer to restore normal inventory levels before next winter.
A large storage deficit requires strong summer injections, which could support Henry Hub prices above the current roughly $2.70 level. Higher gas prices would also shift power generation away from coal and affect feed-ingredient and energy costs.
After 155 past bullish macro events, Natural Gas moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -4.0% to +7.1%), and +2.0% over 20.
