Belarus's government launched construction of a $733 million grain processing complex in Minsk Oblast, a joint venture with China's CITIC Group. The plant will process 250,000 tonnes of wheat and triticale a year into amino acids, gluten and feed, including 64,700 tonnes of lysine.
The Export-Import Bank of China has provided a CNY4.290 billion loan for the project.
Domestic amino acid output would let Belarus cut its roughly $200 million annual amino acid imports, which adds lysine supply over the long term. The project's grain demand is small relative to global wheat supply, so its price effect is modest.
