Canadian oat yields have risen 18 per cent on average over five years, outpacing other cereals, according to a Grainews report. Funding for oat breeding has been cut, with PepsiCo eliminating about $600,000 and AAFC lowering its share from 75 to 50 per cent.
Yield gains support oat supply, while reduced breeding funding could slow future variety improvement over the long run; the near-term price effect is minimal.
After 35 past neutral report events, Oats moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -1.9% to +2.5%), and -1.2% over 20.
