Malaysia's Finance Ministry has agreed to suspend the crude palm oil export duty, making exports tax-free from May 1 to December 31, 2019. Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok said the move is meant to encourage exports, with buyers in Africa, the Middle East and Russia reportedly interested.
Removing the 4.5% export duty lowers the landed cost of Malaysian palm oil for importers and could lift export volumes, supportive for palm oil prices and for substitute vegetable oils used in feed.
After 548 past bullish policy events, Palm Oil moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (61% higher; middle half -0.7% to +2.1%), and +0.9% over 20.
