The National Farmers Union issued a statement on USDA's trade assistance package, which allocates up to $16 billion, including $14.5 billion in direct payments. The union said the package is an improvement over last year's aid but does not provide predictable relief, and it called for supply management policies.
The statement is a reaction to aid already announced and signals continued farm-group pressure for policy change. It does not change current supply or demand fundamentals.
