The European Commission adopted a Delegated Act that updates the scope of the EU Deforestation Regulation, removing cattle hides, skins and leather along with several non-agricultural products. It added soluble coffee, certain palm oil derivatives and frozen cattle tongues, which will be covered from December 30, 2027.
Excluding leather, a by-product of the meat industry, reduces compliance costs for hide exporters, which can support hide values and cattle-chain economics. The added palm oil derivatives and cattle tongues widen regulated trade slightly.
