A Reuters poll of 23 Mexican peso strategists and 25 Brazilian real strategists, taken May 4-6, 2020, expects both currencies to stay near end-April levels over the next month. The forecasts are about 24.29 pesos and 5.45 reais per US dollar, after the currencies suffered heavy losses over two months from the pandemic.
The poll points to stable Latin American currencies, so it gives little reason for a sharp change in the dollar cost of Brazilian or Mexican grain and meal exports. Downside risks from the pandemic and ratings downgrades remain, which could change that outlook.
After 92 past neutral macro events, Brazilian Real (BRL per USD) moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (58% higher; middle half -0.7% to +1.4%), and +0.4% over 20.
