Senator John Hoeven announced that the USDA released final details for the $16 billion in direct CFAP assistance, with sign-up starting May 26. Producers will initially receive 80% of their payment, with the rest paid later in the year, and payments capped at $250,000 per individual.
Hoeven said the aid is meant to help cattle producers facing low prices.
Direct cash to cattle and other producers can support herd retention and feed use during price weakness. The payment schedule means relief arrives in June, which affects near-term producer decisions.
