India's DGFT notification of August 11, 2020 allows specified quantities of eggs, potatoes, onions, rice, wheat flour, sugar, dal and construction materials to be exported to Maldives for 2020-21 under a bilateral agreement. The export quotas are exempt from existing or future restrictions for that period.
The quotas are small relative to India's rice and sugar trade, so the effect on global prices is limited, though it provides a guaranteed outlet for Indian supplies.
After 70 past neutral trade events, RICE moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.9%), and +1.3% over 20.
After 206 past neutral trade events, WHEAT moved a median +0.1% over 5 sessions (53% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.6%), and +0.5% over 20.
Moves of each commodity's benchmark from the last close before the event. Historical reads pool past events of the same kind; they describe what happened, not what will. Not investment advice.
