Thai rice mills are seeking government loans or debt relief after drought in the Central region delayed planting and pushed harvests to October and November. Mills expect to run 50-60% below capacity, and the association says exports reached 3.3 million tonnes in the first seven months of the year.
Delayed harvests and a concentrated harvest window could create an oversupply at harvest time, which would pressure Thai rice prices. Reduced mill output and weaker export volumes are the main offsetting factors.
After 27 past bearish weather events, RICE moved a median -1.6% over 5 sessions (37% higher; middle half -3.4% to +1.1%), and -1.3% over 20.
