Reuters reports Indonesia is considering changing its palm oil export levy to raise more money for biodiesel subsidies. The current levy is a flat $55 per tonne, and the proposed scheme would add $5 for every $25 rise in palm oil prices.
The baseline price for the new scheme has not been reported.
A price-linked levy would raise exporter costs when palm prices rise, which could cap export demand and firm prices, while funding the biodiesel programme that supports domestic consumption.
