NITI Aayog, India's policy think-tank, has called for policy action against growing rice and wheat surpluses, including a 20-25% export increase and crop diversification toward millets and pulses. The suggestions were discussed at a governing council meeting on 20 February.
If implemented, higher Indian export push and diversification away from rice and wheat would add supply to world markets and pressure rice and wheat prices lower.
