Four Midwest dairy groups (Dairy Business Association, Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative, Minnesota Milk and Nebraska State Dairy Association) proposed a reform called Class III Plus. It would tie the Class I skim milk price to the Class III price plus an adjuster of at least 36 cents per cwt for 2021-2025, and replace advanced pricing with announced prices.
The proposal follows a request by the National Milk Producers Federation for an emergency hearing on federal milk pricing.
If adopted, the formula change would alter how Class I milk prices are set and could shift farm milk revenue and dairy-feed margins. Its effect on prices depends on whether regulators act on it.
After 93 past neutral policy events, Milk (Class III) moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (48% higher; middle half -0.6% to +0.6%), and +0.2% over 20.
