The American Dairy Coalition board passed a motion backing a temporary return to the previous 'higher of' Class I pricing formula while USDA's formal hearing process considers options. The ADC said the 2019 formula change caused losses above $750 million, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who chairs the dairy subcommittee, criticised the formula at the September 15 hearing.
A possible return to the 'higher of' formula would change Class I milk prices paid to processors, but the proposal is still at an early stage and does not yet alter dairy supply or demand.
After 93 past neutral policy events, Milk (Class III) moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (48% higher; middle half -0.6% to +0.6%), and +0.2% over 20.
