Global Canopy and WWF released a Soy Traders Scorecard finding that 22 major soy traders are not adequately ensuring their soy is free of deforestation links. The report notes that over 8 million hectares of native vegetation have been cleared for soy since 2001 and that a few traders dominate global trade.
Pressure on the largest soy traders to improve traceability could alter sourcing flows from Brazil and Argentina and raise compliance costs for soymeal buyers. The report does not itself shift near-term soybean prices.
