The EU is moving to lift its ban on feeding processed animal by-products such as meat and bone meal to livestock. The ban had been in place since the BSE crisis and restricted the protein sources available to farmed animals, including pigs and poultry.
Allowing meat and bone meal back into livestock rations adds a cheaper animal protein supply that can replace some soymeal demand, which is bearish for soybean meal and meat and bone meal prices.
After 223 past bearish policy events, Soybean Meal moved a median -0.3% over 5 sessions (45% higher; middle half -2.2% to +1.2%), and -0.6% over 20.
