China's customs banned imports of cattle and cattle products from Laos on 22 July 2021 to prevent spread of lumpy skin disease. Laos had reported its first outbreaks of the disease earlier that month.
Laos is a small cattle supplier to China, so the direct trade effect is minor. The ban reflects growing regional lumpy skin disease risk that could tighten Asian beef and cattle supply.
After 69 past neutral disease events, Live Cattle moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (42% higher; middle half -0.8% to +0.6%), and +0.9% over 20.
