Kansas State University agricultural economists completed a 20-year review of price discovery in the fed cattle and beef industry. The study concludes that COVID-19, a 2019 Holcomb packing plant fire and a May cyber-attack on a major meat supplier have not changed longer-term pricing motivations.
The findings suggest that packing constraints and disruptions are short-term, so cattle pricing structures are likely to persist and feeder buyers should expect existing supply-chain dynamics to continue.
