The European Parliament adopted a position on the draft deforestation-free products regulation. It proposed extending the covered products to pig meat, poultry, maize, rubber and others.
The proposal still requires negotiations with member states before approval.
If adopted with the expanded product list, the rules would add compliance costs for EU imports of maize, soy, palm oil and livestock feed inputs, which could shift trade flows.
