France's farm ministry lowered its winter soft wheat area estimate for 2022 to 4.75 million hectares from 4.92 million in December, down 4.3% from 2021. It raised winter barley to 1.25 million hectares and winter rapeseed to 1.16 million hectares, up 18% year on year.
A smaller French wheat area and larger rapeseed area tighten the outlook for European wheat supply while supporting oilseed supply for vegetable oil and meal. The shift is modest, so the price effect is limited but mildly supportive for wheat.
After 769 past bullish report events, Wheat (SRW) moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (53% higher; middle half -1.4% to +2.0%), and +0.2% over 20.
