The dollar firmed in early Asian trade after strong US consumer spending data showed persistent underlying inflation, reducing bets on an imminent Fed slowdown. Against the yen the greenback rose 0.44% to 148.08, helped by the Bank of Japan keeping ultra-low rates and Governor Kuroda's dovish comments.
Expectations of a further 75bp Fed hike support a stronger dollar, which pressures dollar-denominated commodity prices and weakens import-currency demand for US feed ingredients.
After 2,356 past bullish macro events, US Dollar (Broad) moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (60% higher; middle half -0.3% to +0.7%), and +0.4% over 20.
