Morocco is set to sign a long-term agreement with India to export rock phosphate, with India's chemicals minister due in Rabat on January 13-14. Under the planned joint venture, public and private players would mine, produce and ship fertilisers to India.
India imports up to 40% of its roughly 50 million tonnes of annual fertiliser needs.
A long-term offtake deal locks in demand for Moroccan rock and fertilisers, tightening available supply and supporting phosphate prices. Other government agreements could follow.
