Iowa State University extension reported that the February WASDE lowered 2023 milk production on weaker milk prices, smaller cow inventories and slightly lower output per cow. Cheese, nonfat dry milk and whey prices were reduced, and Class III and IV prices were lowered.
The all-milk price was cut to $20.70 per cwt.
Lower projected milk supply and weaker product prices signal softer dairy returns. Feed buyers linked to dairy demand should expect a less supportive market.
After 273 past bearish report events, Milk (Class III) moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (39% higher; middle half -1.3% to +0.4%), and -1.4% over 20.
