Human Rights Watch welcomed the European Parliament's 19 April vote on the Deforestation-Free Products Regulation, which requires EU companies to ensure imports and exports of wood, palm oil, soy, coffee, cocoa, rubber and cattle are not from land deforested after 31 December 2020. The Council is expected to approve the law in late April.
Final Council approval would bring the law into force, creating compliance requirements that could raise costs and reduce EU import demand for soy and palm oil from non-compliant sources.
