FTR's Shippers Conditions Index fell in June to 7.9 from 8.6 in May, weighed by a jump in diesel prices. The US average diesel price rose 8.6 cents to $4.475 per gallon, a surge of nearly 67 cents since July 24.
Gasoline also rose sharply and sits just below 2022 highs.
Fuel surcharges and capacity shifts are squeezing shipper conditions, which can raise the cost of moving feed and grain by truck. Persistent fuel inflation supports higher domestic freight costs.
After 109 past bullish report events, ULSD / Diesel moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -3.3% to +3.9%), and +0.3% over 20.
