A group of 39 US lawmakers, with bipartisan support, asked the Commerce Department to cut countervailing duties on Moroccan phosphate fertilizer from about 20%. They said US farmers are short of supply, with the US needing to import 2.7 million tonnes against demand of 7.4 million.
They also said US DAP prices run 11% above Brazil and 8% above India.
Lower duties would let more Moroccan DAP into the US, easing the supply gap and pressuring domestic DAP prices. The request is not yet a decision, so the effect is still prospective.
After 40 past bearish trade events, DAP moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (38% higher; middle half -3.7% to +0.5%), and -2.4% over 20.
