An article from Landmark Information Group explains that from 30 December 2024, or 30 June 2025 for micro and small businesses, relevant products cannot be placed on or exported from the EU market unless they are deforestation-free, legally produced and covered by a due diligence statement. The regulation targets soy, beef, palm oil, wood, cocoa, coffee and rubber, and their derived products, mainly in Amazon, Borneo, Sumatra and the Congo Basin.
Restricting EU market access for deforestation-linked soy and palm oil reduces demand from the EU for non-compliant origins, which could weigh on prices for those origins while favoring verified supply.
