The federal order Class III milk price for February was announced at $16.08 per hundredweight, up 91 cents from January but $1.70 below a year earlier. Butter and cheese inventory data from USDA showed mixed changes, with butter stocks up sharply from December.
Futures for the rest of 2024 were quoted in the $16.77 to $18.71 range.
The modest monthly gain reverses a two-month slide, but prices remain below breakeven for many US farms, which can limit herd expansion and dairy feed demand. The rise is small and does not yet signal a sustained price trend.
