India's government allowed exports of up to 1,000 tonnes of Kala Namak rice, a non-basmati variety that was otherwise prohibited, through six specified customs stations. The notification was issued on April 2, 2024.
The quantity is very small relative to global rice trade, so the exemption has negligible effect on world rice supply and prices.
After 70 past neutral trade events, Rough Rice moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (51% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.9%), and +1.3% over 20.
