India's government eased inspection requirements for rice shipments to European countries outside the EU, UK and EFTA, through a notification issued October 4, 2025. Exporters no longer need an Export Inspection Council certificate for those destinations until April 2, 2026.
The move is aimed at diversifying exports amid US tariff pressure.
Lower certification hurdles make it easier for Indian rice to reach new European buyers, adding some export competition for other origins. The impact on rice prices is likely limited because the volumes are small.
