The rupiah closed slightly weaker at Rp15,140 per US dollar on Monday, down 15 points. The move followed US PCE inflation data showing headline annual inflation easing to 2.2% year on year, below the 2.3% expected, and core monthly PCE slowing to 0.1%.
Softer US inflation strengthens expectations of further Fed easing, which tends to weigh on the dollar and support emerging-market currencies over time. For feed buyers, a firmer rupiah modestly lowers the local cost of imported feed inputs such as soybean meal and corn.
After 1,637 past bearish macro events, US Dollar (Broad) moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (39% higher; middle half -0.6% to +0.3%), and -0.2% over 20.
